The client below ordered a four volume set of 16x20, with two duplicates of 12x16 for each volume. It was a long project, with many photos that required photo restoration work (1,200+) and graphic design elements to be applied.

Each volume was approximately 96 pages, and we graphically designed over 360 pages. When we received the email, it truly touched our hearts and made all the long hours more than worthwhile!

The saying, "The fabric of our lives", never seems truer than in "Friends Ever Faithful and True".

We almost didn't find find this fabric piece displayed on a crowded wall of an antique store's dark corner. It was a difficult picture to take and fails to do justice to the artist. Thankfully, the RAW image file shows the beautiful texture of every stitch.

We wish now that we had purchased this rare piece of art, for the loving detail that is apparent in this "fabric" wall album exemplifies the determined spirit of bygone days to carefully incorporate graphic design elements around cherished memories. How much time was spent on this detailed embroidery? We will never know, but its beauty and hopeful charm will be visibly enjoyed and shared forever.

Several of our family members and friends family have suffered the devastating affects of Alzheimer disease, and through the consistent use of photographs and repetition our loved ones were able to remember us longer than we had hoped. We urge you to take care of those treasured photographs, for they represent memories captured in time.

David Clegg contacted in September of 2006. He said “I have 35 professional photographs of our Lake Tahoe Estate that I would like put into a book so I can give ten copies to family”. We spoke for a very long time, and I asked him, “Are the pictures of your family enjoying the property?”. “No,” he said, “I hired a professional photographer to take pictures of the house, rooms and grounds for the book.” “What about the memories?” I asked. In good conscience I knew we could not even think to take the project if it did not have heart. The photographer he hired did not provide the images to us until February of 2007, which did not help his frustration with the project. We encouraged him to include pictures he had taken personally, and old family photos and letters that we scanned. He told me later that the project acted as a catharsis and he was grateful that he found us.

35 pictures in a book evolved into over 750 images, including the transcription and typesetting of 120 pages of original oral history documents, scanning of old family letters, and the discovery of old 16 mm film that had been converted to DVD. David Clegg did not have any still photographs of his parents wedding. He sent us the old film that had been converted to VHS then to DVD, and we had the wonderful experience (and tiring) of using Adobe Premiere to view the film frame by frame in order to export those frames that could be used as a still photograph. Then the images had to be sharpened and color corrected. The problem was that the digital frame files were so small and could not be enlarged, yet we felt strongly that they should be incorporated into the book for historical purposes. So, we found a way.

There are two emails from him below, the first being when he received the books, and the second after they had been viewed by one of the family. Both brought tears to our eyes. During our chats, he has shared with us that the project has brought the family closer together and helped ease the pain of loss. We are blessed to have clients such as him.

Hi David,
I was at Hazel's annual Caroling party just before Christmas and during the evening some of us were reminiscing about The Aspens, our Tahoe memories, Christmas plans in the snow (me!) and on and on. When Hazel came into the room and heard our conversation she brought out the beautiful collection of Aspens Memories you compiled and gave to your siblings for Christmas. I was literally blown away by what you did and even though I didn't have time to digest much of the two albums that evening, I hope to borrow them from Hazel soon and go down memory lane by reading every word and looking at every wonderful photo. I hope you know that what you gave to them was priceless and I will very much look forward to reading all that you wrote and so elegantly presented to each of your brothers and sisters.

As you know, I have a love affair with Tahoe and hope to keep going there until the end of my days. Although I am not particularly religious, I must say that Tahoe is my cathedral and it is there when the spiritual part of me comes alive. I will always cherish the memories of wonderful times spent at the Aspens, many with your family - hiking, horseback rides, gooseberry picking, throwing rocks into the lake, canoeing, aquaplaning, water skiing, those old orange life jackets, hand fishing, floating down Ward Creek on air mattresses, sleeping in the pest house with gin bottles to keep me warm, skinny dipping (especially on full moon nights!), swimming out to the buoy and back, games in the cabin, campfires and sing alongs at the point, sun burns, white zinc oxide on our noses, mosquitoes, bears, bats, skunks, lunches on the porch, dinners at the long table in front of a roaring fire, splinters in toes from the boardwalk leading to the pier, summer thunder storms, huge waves, shooting stars, craw-fish traps, fishing from the pier (you were the star at this sport!), the wonderful sound of the dinner bell, warm baths in those huge tubs, wooden drainboards, the wood burning stove, spending a day at Aunt Arline's and loving her sandy beach!, boat trips to Emerald Bay, Mayhew Cabins - and on, and on and on.

I shed many tears when I heard that the Aspens had sold, knowing that a very special part of my Tahoe past won't be there in years to come. It will be sad to pass the pier by boat, and not finding a family member on the beach. I realize now that what makes Tahoe so very special to me is not just the majesty of the mountains and the lake - but also the many years of sharing it all with my family.

Please know that I hope that you will come to Tahoe again each summer - and that you will let me know when you will be there. I regret that you and I have not touched bases as often as we would have liked during our adult years, but I do have fond memories of our visit two years ago - and look forward to "connecting" with you again.

We had a wonderful photographer whose photojournalistic style made for great pictures that not only preserved memories but also told a story. When we found the Custom Photo Book website, we knew their custom coffee table magazine style books would be perfect!

We were originally going to have Custom Photo Book scan our negatives and design our book for us. We had so many great pictures, though, that we found it difficult to narrow our choices and felt somewhat limited by having our book designed by someone that did not personally know us or our story. Instead, we spoke with Custom Photo Book who encouraged us to look into creating our own designs.

Initially it seemed that the task was impossible, but after scanning our negatives to make them into digital images and learning how to use Adobe Photoshop, we decided to try. (A side note….if your photographer offers CDROMs of your photographs, DO NOT turn him/her down! It would have been a lot easier for us if we had spent the extra money up front and gotten our pictures as digital images).

We spent a lot of time and hard work creating the designs but found that it made the whole experience much more personal and rewarding (not to mention we got a photo album packed full of memories for a fraction of the cost it would have been to have it professionally designed)!

Even though we currently live outside of the United States, Custom Photo Book was extremely responsive and helpful along the way. Through email and phone conversations, Custom Photo Book provided comprehensive answers to our technical questions, and even occasionally offered us advice on our designs. We are very satisfied and would recommend to anyone looking for a more personalized keepsake, give it a try!"
